Suheyl Demirtas

Suheyl Demirtas, Secretary General of the Turkish Shipbuilders Association (GISBIR), was born in Istanbul in 1962. He entered the Turkish Naval Academy in 1979 and graduated in 1983, and after serving on board various ships as a division officer and department head, attended the Naval War College between 1990-1992 and the United States Naval War College, Newport, RI, in 1998.

Having served as Chief of the Counter Intelligence and Security Division at Turkish Naval Forces Command HQ between 2006-2007, he was assigned as Commandant of Midshipmen at the Turkish Naval Academy, and after serving one year he retired from the Turkish Navy upon his own request. His decorations include the NATO Medal (Bosnia-Herzegovina) and NATO Medal (Kosovo). Following his retirement, he undertook the position of Deputy General Manager and Business Development Manager at Tuzla Shipyard. He has been Secretary General of the Turkish Shipbuilders Association since 2011, representing the association in national and international platforms, and has also acted as Chairman of the Board of GISAS Shipbuilding Co. Inc. since 2012.
