Paulo Rabello de Castro

Paulo Rabello de Castro is an economist and lawyer, educated at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the State University of Rio de Janeiro before earning a master's and doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago, where he studied under Milton Friedman, Gary Becker and Theodore Schultz.

He has held senior positions at SR Rating, ARC Ratings, RC Consultores and Macroconsulting, and was a full professor of economics at Fundação Getúlio Vargas. He served as President of Brazil's national statistics institute, IBGE, from July 2016 to June 2017, before moving to head the national development bank, BNDES, from June 2017.

He spoke at Mare Forum's 1st Mare Forum South America in 2011 and the 2nd Mare Forum Brazil in 2012, where his role was given as Chairman of SR Ratings.
