Efthimios E. Mitropoulos

Efthimios E. Mitropoulos joined the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 1979 as Implementation Officer of the Maritime Safety Division, rising through Head of the Navigation Section (1985) and Senior Deputy Director for Navigation and Related Matters (1989) to become Director of the Maritime Safety Division and Secretary of the Maritime Safety Committee in 1992, and Assistant Secretary-General in 2000. He served as IMO Secretary-General from 2004 to 2011, and from 2004 was also Chancellor of the World Maritime University and Governing Board Chairman of the International Maritime Law Institute.

He spoke as a panellist at Mare Forum 1999 and Mare Forum 2000, while Director of the Maritime Safety Division.
