Shipping China 2007 - Energy Transportation
Oil,
gas, coal –
demand, supply and marine transportation for China.
CHINA has a huge craving for energy that is evident across the
globe as it searches far and wide for the fuel to keep its massive
economy growing.
It recorded economic growth of 10.2% in 2005 and, according to BP's
Statistical Review of World Energy 2006, accounted for just under half
of the world's entire growth in energy consumption for the year.
Not only is China the world's biggest producer and consumer of coal,
but it is the second biggest consumer of oil after the US and just
this summer it stepped onto the international LNG stage by importing
its first ever cargo into a new terminal at Guangdong.
In oil, Chinese state-owned giants CNOOC, Sinopec and PetroChina, are
investing billions of dollars in overseas fields as they seek secure
access to the huge quantities of oil that will be required over and
above domestic supplies.
Growth in natural gas is being boosted not just by the economy but
also by environmental pressures favouring the use of cleaner fuels.
There are ambitious plans for domestic supply growth and pipeline
imports, but liquefied natural gas is also expected to form an
important part of China's supply strategy.
With the Dapeng LNG terminal in Guangdong having just started
operations, a second receiving facility at Fujian will follow within
three years and there are plans for as many as 10 more if supplies can
be secured cheaply enough.
The first Shipping
China 2004 conference broke new ground by offering delegates a
genuinely open debating platform for discussions. The annual Shipping
China event has become the established forum for world leaders in
shipping, including local and domestic to meet, share experiences and
forge new partnerships.
Shipping China 2007 will focus exclusively on the question on how
shipping will respond to China's every growing energy requirement
looking ahead into demand drivers, oil, gas, coal, energy alternatives and fleet
programmes.
